Type Geekery: Arial vs. Helvetica

Sep 22

d8a5033cb029c5c30d2a93d402def1ddba97582d_m1As someone who prefers Helvetica to Arial but could never quite articulate why (well, it does look the same at first glance), I love this chart. Upon closer inspection, it would seem that I’m drawn to the symmetrical nature of Helvetica. Cool. (At least for type geeks.)

Love: Nerdimals Illos

May 26

picture-101picture-3 il_430xn71501895Lauren Gregg’s “Nerdimals” combine lots of my favorite things (cute animals, geekery) in one retro package. Plus they’re called Nerdimals! Love that. Love her. Love the Trekkie, Record Store, and Dungeons and Dragons nerds in particular. Although I have to say, they’re almost too cool for their so-called nerdiness.

Score a geeky friend of your own in Lauren’s Etsy shop.

Love: Periodic Table of Typefaces

Mar 10

periodic table of typefacesLove this Periodic Table of Typefaces (found via swissmiss). The font snob in me is especially delighted to see there’s not a Comic Sans in sight. (Although I suppose if I were truly snobby I wouldn’t have used the word “font.“) I feel like the Periodic Table is getting a little piece of the zeitgeist these days (see: periodic table of sentiments at Pink Loves Brown; these pillows from Orlaville.) I like this science-class chic.

One More Reason to Heart Gmail

Mar 6

D’oh tip of the day: I recently realized that I could add any email account to my main Gmail and get all my mail in one place, with automatic labels so I know what came from where. (You can also send from each account.) This isn’t especially earth-shattering, but I can’t tell you how much time it saves me each day. I used to loathe logging in and out of gmail and hotmail morning and night (I have 7 accounts!), and now I can just stay logged in to one. Heaven.

Head to Settings>Accounts>Get email from other accounts to get in on the action yourself.
